logo_mcplay_bk.png
BOWEN was a sponsor of Private Parts by famous Singaporean playwright Mr Michael Chiang held in Singapore Drama Theatre throughout November 2018.

It was lauded as "a special production that should not close until every person in the nation has seen it" by The Straits Times when it made its remarkable debut at the Singapore Arts International Festival in 1992.

Popular playwright Michael Chiang wrote many hit comedies Army Daze, Beauty World, Mixed Signals and High Class. Private Parts is a wild comedy that explores gender complications.

Set in 1990 Singapore, the inventive story traces the misadventures of a popular talk-show host, Warren Lee, who mysteriously turns up at a sex-change clinic. There, he encounters the tart-tongued Mirabella, the light-headed Lavinia and the quietly intense Edward. In a bid to boost ratings, he tries to convince his colourful new friends to appear on his TV show, which leads to unexpected consequences...

The stellar cast includes well-known TV personalities Jason Godfrey and Chua Enlai, theatre vets Shane Mardjuki, Zee Wong, Jo Tan, Frances Lee and Andrew Marko, and YouTube star Hirzi Zulkiflie. In the late 1940s, Taiwan experienced an influx of new immigrants from China who were subsequently housed in what became known as Dependents’ Villages. What were supposed to be temporary homes became permanent ones, and a thriving subculture emerged that would vibrantly colour Taiwan’s cultural heritage forever. These villages thrived for nearly half a century and more than 800 villages existed, each with their own unique culture and community. Today, less than 200 remain. Inspired by and based on a variety of real-life immigrant experiences, The Village brings you into the lives of these displaced people during this significant period in the history of Taiwan.
